Pulmonary Capillary Flow Pulse and the Site of Pulmonary Vasoconstriciton in the Dog.

چکیده
• The amplitude of the capillary pulse is markedly dependent on resistance to blood flow through precapillary vessels. Recent studies by Lee and DuBois indicate that blood flow through the pulmonary capillaries * is normally pulsatile. This result points to the possibility that reactions of pulmonary arterial vessels may be studied by their effects on the amplitude of the pulmonary capillary pulse. We have adapted, therefore, the plethysmographic-nitrous oxide technique of Lee and DuBois to a detailed experimental analysis of factors affecting the amplitude of the pulmonary capillary pulse in dogs. The results indicate that the purely mechanical effects on pulse amplitude of changes in heart rate or pulmonary arterial pressure can be distinguished from the effects of active changes in caliber of the pulmonary vessels. Evidence will also be presented that the principal site of pulmonary vasoconstriction induced by hypoxia involves the precapillary vessels.

Wave propagation in the pulmonary circulation.
A mathematical model of the entire pulmonary circulation of the dog, based on branching elastic tubes, is shown to yield a useful description of the propagation of pulmonary vascular pressure and flow waves. The pressure and flow pulses throughout the model are computed from the pressures measured at the arterial and venous ends of the system. Computed flow pulses at each end of the system agre...

Case description- A two-year-old intact Golden Retriever was affected with the 6-months previous history of blastomycosis and treatment was performed using fluconazole. Clinical findings- Cough, fever, nasal discharge, dry and harsh lung sounds with peripheral lymphadenopathy was observed. Emphysematous change and large pulmonary bulla was reported in computed tomography of the thorax. Treatm...

Spirometry and flow - volume loop show the abnormal pattern of pulmonary dysfunction and the site of the obstruction of upper and peripheral airways. For determinig the shape of flow - volume loop in obstruction of carina and bronchus we examined 19 patients with large airway obstruction documented with fiberoptic bronchoscopy via pulmonary function testing and flow volume loop performing. متن کاملPropagation of blood flow pulse in the normal human pulmonary arterial system. Analysis of the pulsatile capillary flow.
We studied a number of dynamic events associated with the pulsatile flow of blood in the pulmonary arterial system of six healthy men in the supine position. We used the nitrous oxide-body plethysmograph method to record the pulmonary capillary blood flow pulse and the phonocardiogram to determine the time of opening and closing of the pulmonary valve. The pattern of right ventricular ejection ...
